After the Charlotte DO last weekend, I rented a car and drove home to surprise the Queen Mother for Mother’s Day. The only thing is that I had already told her (and forgotten), so the surprise was on me. I don’t know about most people, but going home to me is a very big deal. It is almost like a step back in time, and not in a good way. Now before people get the wrong idea, it has nothing to do with my family. After all, I am a royal Queen and the Queen Mother and the rest of my family love me. It has only to with technology and progress.
Growing up in the Deep South, one of the things we did for fun was to walk and play on these railroad tracks. Growing up in this town had its share of pluses and minuses…just like any other town
Usually, there are way more of the pluses. That is until you leave your small town, venture out into the big old world, and then come back to your hometown that is just a step above where it was when you left. Case in point: when I left, my town did not even have a stoplight, but now they have a caution light that is located about four miles from where I grew up.
Furthermore as a kid, who needed cell phones? Now, as a Queen, I never leave home with out it (or my American Express card). However, on the way to my hometown I prepare to do without it or to walk out to the edge of the property line and hope and pray for a signal. Mostly it is just a waste of time and gets dirt on my shoes even trying.
Then again, it’s almost like being on a far away island, where there is nothing to keep you from connecting with the person in front of you. And that is a very good thing.
So. What kind of issues do you encounter when you go back home?
